Course Description

This course provides an introduction to creating educational content for health professionals that is fair and balanced, aligns with the rigorous standards of both accredited and non-accredited continuing education, and upholds the highest levels of independence, integrity and accuracy.

Accredited and non-accredited education are vital for keeping health professionals apprised of rapidly evolving healthcare and therapeutic landscapes. Most states in the US require health professionals to earn accredited continuing medical education/continuing education (CME/CE) credits to maintain their professional licenses. Pharmaceutical companies also deliver education to keep health professionals informed about disease states and emerging therapies. Medical writers are instrumental in developing both types of education.

To ensure that education content meets both the needs of health professionals and standards for content integrity, medical writers should be knowledgeable about and able to apply principles of adult learning, accreditation standards, and learning science insights to their work.

By the end of this course, students will have a framework of creating educational content for health professionals. They will demonstrate this framework by creating a content plan that incorporates best practices in adult learning, adheres to ethical standards for content integrity, meets the specific needs of a chosen healthcare audience, and aligns with established learning outcomes frameworks.
