EDIT11100 - Basic Manuscript Editing
Course Description
This course gives participants a working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, the most comprehensive and widely used style guide. The course covers many aspects of what it means to be a copyeditor, covering the editorial process and addressing topics such as spelling, punctuation, usage, foreign titles, tables and graphs, and more.
Students in the Basic Manuscript Editing course will be tasked with reading chapters from The Chicago Manual of Style and working through editing assignments ahead of the synchronous course meetings each week. This progression of work is meant to increase perspective and retention, as well as allow students to consider content and ask questions on a deeper level in the live meetings.
Basic Manuscript Editing is a required course for students enrolled in the Editing certificate. Experienced copyeditors may bypass EDIT11100 - Basic Manuscript Editing with permission of the program manager.
"Online self-paced" refers to course start and end dates. "Online fixed date" refers to the synchronous session schedule fully available under "Section Notes."
